California Pharmacy Delivery: What to Confirm Before You Order

A smooth pharmacy delivery starts before the package leaves the pharmacy. Confirm the prescription, destination and storage plan so avoidable delays are caught early.

Confirm that the prescription is ready to move forward

Before planning around a delivery date, make sure the pharmacy has a valid prescription, required refill authorization and any information needed to process the order. Insurance questions, prescriber responses and product availability can affect timing.

Use the exact receiving address

Provide the complete address, unit or suite number, gate instructions when appropriate, and a phone number that can receive delivery updates. If the medicine is being sent somewhere other than your home, confirm that the recipient can accept it.

Ask whether the product has special storage needs

Some medications require more careful temperature handling than others. Ask whether the product can remain at room temperature, must be refrigerated after arrival, or needs immediate unpacking.

Plan for the handoff

Ask whether a signature is needed and what happens if no one is available. For time-sensitive or temperature-sensitive products, being available at delivery can reduce avoidable exposure.

Inspect the package when it arrives

Check that the package is addressed to the correct person and that the medication and strength match what you expected. If packaging is damaged, wet, excessively hot or otherwise concerning, contact the pharmacy before using the product.
