Specialty medications can involve extra coordination. Use pickup or delivery as a checkpoint to confirm storage, timing and what needs to happen before the next refill.

Confirm the medication and supplies before leaving

Check the product name, strength, quantity and any administration supplies you expect to receive. If the medication requires needles, alcohol pads, a sharps container or another item, ask whether those are included or obtained separately.

Ask exactly where it should be stored

Do not assume every specialty medicine belongs in the refrigerator. Follow the label for the specific product. If refrigeration is required, ask how long the product can be out during transport and what to do if it becomes too warm or freezes.

Know when the first dose is due

Some therapies begin on a specific date or after training. Confirm the intended start date and whether a clinician needs to supervise or teach the first administration.

Write down the refill lead time

Specialty medication refills may involve insurance authorization, prescriber renewal, product ordering or shipping. Ask how early you should contact the pharmacy so those steps do not begin after you have run out.

Insurance, clinical questions, refill authorization and delivery problems may be handled by different teams. Save the pharmacy number and any manufacturer or clinic contact you have been told to use.

Report a damaged or questionable shipment before use

If a package is damaged or a temperature indicator suggests a problem, keep the medication and packaging together and contact the pharmacy for product-specific instructions.
